Thank you all so much for your sweet comments on my last post! It turns out that I had a sinus infection, which might explain why I've felt so wiped out for the last couple of months. I'm on an antibiotic, so I'm starting to feel more like myself, just in time for my favorite season!!!
50mm 1.8 lens, 1/25, f/3.5, ISO 100
Portland didn't get the memo about Spring until March 23 and it was a beautiful day! On Friday and Saturday I went out walking and took lots of pictures of the Pink Trees, of course :-) Not all the varieties of Pink Trees are blooming yet, but in a couple of weeks my little neighborhood should be quite spectacular!
I shot this with my Nikon D3100, which I am having a great deal of difficulty learning to use. I understand the Exposure Triangle, but for some reason I am not able to get consistent results. I am fairly happy with the way this turned out and made very few edits, all in Adobe Camera Raw.
I'll just keep practicing and hope that I eventually get that hang of it. But maybe I'll just sell my Nikon and buy an iPhone :-)

Beautiful!
Thank you so much, Laura!
This is so beautiful!
I can just feel the sunshine.
Glad that you are feeling better too!
Elaine, this is so gorgeous! Love the soft colors.
Thank you, Sheila! It was such a pretty day! Now it's back to wet and gray, but at least it's not too chilly.
Thank you, Betty!
This is just stunning.
Thanks so much, Lisa!
I'm glad you're feeling better. What a beautiful picture of the pink tree. I love those too, and saw a few of them here and there on Easter. Have a good week.

Thanks, Sheri!
Don't sell your Nikon!!! I love this photo very much. Spring time is the most beautiful time of year, one can make such lovely photos!
Have a nice day,
Barbara from Hamburg/Germany
Thanks so much for the encouragement, Barbara!
It looks like it's going to be another nice day here, so I'll go out later and keep practicing :-)
Your photos are so soft and feminine. :) Happy to hear you're feeling better!! xo
Thanks so much, Vicki!
It's really beautiful! I think you did everything right!
Glad to hear you are feeling better and LOL on Portland not getting the memo about Spring lol
have a fabulous week-end!
Thanks, Sandy! It looks like it's going to be another sunny weekend here, thank goodness!
I get very few good images w/my Nikon 50mm l.8 lens. Perhaps that's the difficulty. Love the image you got!
Betty~~did you read my mind??? :~) Today I decided to use my 40mm Micro and I am much happier with the results! Having you confirm that it might be the 50mm that has caused me such frustration makes me feel so much better! Thank you :~)
Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well lately, Elaine, but glad you're on the mend. I love that photo--just gorgeous! On a side note, how did you get that nifty reply option on your blog? xo
Thanks you for the sweet words, Sweet Ivy!
"Reply" just showed up one day~~I don't know where it came from!!! There must be somewhere you can add it, though. If I figure it out, I'll let you know :~)
I wonder why your profile pic doesn't show up?
Thanks for stopping by my blog today! I had to come and check you out since I was intrigued by your icon and profile name:)
Spring is my fave season too. I literally could shoot hundreds and hundreds of flowering trees and blossoms!
You're welcome, Sylvia! Thanks for coming to visit me :~)
I became enamored of all the Pink Trees when I moved to Portland in '06, and went crazy taking taking pictures of them when I bought my first digital camera in '08!
Hi Elaine! Happy Mother's Day to you, too! Hope you are feeling well. Thank you for your kind visit today. I see you're not posting much lately. Nor am I, at least not on Quiddity 2. And F@H is easy, and serves to keep me connected. I should be more disciplined and do some of the fabulous tutorials you post here. But instead I just seem to like to play on Pinterest!! Do you do that? It's a slippery slope once you get started...
Guess all your "pink trees" have gone by now, huh? The shot you got above is simply exquisite!
Love to you, dear,
xx
dawne
Hi Dawne~~thanks for stopping by my sad, neglected blog :~) I've been so discouraged with my photography lately, that I haven't even felt like Photoshopping :~( But I'm hoping to get back in the swing of things one of these days!
We are having a glorious heat wave here and I'm planning to go over to a local park later. There are baby ducks and geese and I've been taking pictures of them!
I haven't gotten hooked on Pinterest~~yet~~but maybe I need to :~)
And yes, most of our Pink Trees have faded, but the rhoddies are bloom and soon there will be a profusion of roses in my neighborhood, and peonies at the Farmers Market.
Love to you, too :~)
A beautiful image! I'm sure you will get the hang of using your Nikon with a bit of practice. I love my Canon EOS 7D ~ getting it was the best thing ever for improving my photography skills and getting better quality photos. I just wish I had a little more spare cash to get a few more lenses!
Oh, thanks, Evelyn! I hope I get the hang of my camera soon~~it's been almost a year! I just keep on shooting :~) Part of me wishes I had purchased a Canon, because my first point and shoot is a Canon, then I bought a G11! I feel a little guilty for being disloyal :~)
I think this is absolutely gorgeous Elaine!
The colors are wonderful, and I think the exposure is great.
The 50mm is a wonderful lens for so many things.
It does take some practice, but once you get the hang of it, it really will become second nature.
So glad you are feeling better!
xo.
Oh, Lisa~~thank you so much for your encouragement! Since this post I have continued to practice. I'm not pushing myself to shoot in Manual now and am having more satisfactory results :-) I'm working on a new post and hopefully will be able to publish it by the end of the week :~)
Ciao Elaine, just popped by to see how you are doing. :) Hope you are having a lovely spring.
Kia~~how sweet of you to check in!!! I was just wondering a couple of days ago how you and Zeno are! I hope you are having a lovely Spring, too!
Spring has been going well, especially a couple of weeks ago when we had a brief heat wave~~heaven!!!
I've been taking a lot of photos, but haven't had a chance to process them yet, let alone write a new post for my poor blog :-/ Soon, I hope :-)
I love this soft dreamy shot.
Thank you so much, Shelly!
